What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma is a unique and natural way of detoxification. It removes excess doshas from the body and helps to eliminate ama. Ama (toxins in the form of  micro level undigested food particles) are root cause of all disease, and it results from aggravated dosha and impaired agni. Ama affects the body and mind, causing simple to complex disorders. Therefore, helping the body to eliminate these toxins is the best way to prevent disease and to maintain good health.

In preparing for Panchakarma, any long standing ama in the deep tissue is brought to the GI tract by Snehana (massages) and Svedana (steam) therapies. From there, ama is released from the body using the appropriate Panchakarma techniques. These therapies are highly individualized on Ayurvedic consultation and imbalances, digestive fire, age, immune system, health condition, season and many other factors.

Depending on individual need, therapies are selected, and the protocol changes as per the selected therapy. Panchakarma helps to reduce the negative effects from the mind and body and restores your natural health and wellness. In today’s busy life, it is the best to take some time off to contemplate on physical and emotional status in order to stay healthy.

Ayurveda recommends vegetarian diet for spiritual purposes and to reduce harm done to the planet. Especially during the PK time, one needs to follow a strict vegetarian diet to allow the system to rest and limit eating any high protein diet that can cause overload to the GI system.

Do I have to take a week off from work for Panchakarma Therapy?

We recommend you to work less if you can for the optimal benefits. However, if it is not possible to take a week off, then we will try to adjust your therapy schedule accordingly.

How will my home routine be during the PK days?

We encourage you to spend some time with yourself and nature. Taking some time off from social media, limiting conversations, and if possible, no television and internet surfing. This can be a huge shift in reducing stress. Taking some time for leisurely walks in nature (avoid excess sunlight), contemplating, and meditating.

Do I have to keep the same time each day or can I change?

We recommend you to keep the same time each day, however, we are more than happy to accommodate you as per your convenience.
