1. What is Ayurveda? I am interested, but don’t know how it works?

Ayurveda is a traditional holistic, complete medical system from India. It believes that healthy life is supported by balance of three energies (doshas) vata, Pitta and Kapha. These energies form a bio-blueprint of us known as the Individual body constitution, which describes our mind, and body nature.
An Ayurvedic consultant focuses on reestablishing the balance of these three doshas. Through Diet and lifestyle changes, herbs, Yogic asana, Pranayama (breath control practices) healing therapies as Panchakarma and stress relieving and rejuvenating therapies to restore and maintain balance.

2. What can I expect from the initial consultation?

The Ayurvedic Lifestyle consultation is a one-on-one session where you will be provided a mind-body assessment. This will include eight fold (ashtvidh pariksha) and ten fold (dahsvidh pariksha) health examination through questioner and pulse assessment. You will understand your constitution type (dosha) and receive personalized recommendations for correcting dosha imbalances (vikriti-health disorders), and learn how to create optimal health and fulfillment in your life. A typical consultation includes guidance in:

* Life style adjustments
* Stress management
* Restful sleep techniques
* Suggestions for Herbal supplements
* Integrating Ayurveda in your daily routine

3.What are the health conditions in which Ayurveda most beneficial?

Disorders of nervous system, respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system, diseases of urinary tract, disorders of reproductive system, febrile and infectious diseases, mental disorders, sinus problems, insomnia, PMS, menopause-related symptoms, mental and emotional agitation, ADD, MS, TMJ, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, infertility and weight gain and many more illnesses are successfully treated with herb and Ayurvedic procedures
Ayurveda enjoys a better place in respect of prevention of dieses whereas cure of the disease is concerned in western medical system.
Ayurveda believes in reestablishing the balance by removing stress. It focuses on maintaining health by removing stress from the mind, body and regulating the basic bodily functions like digestion, elimination, circulation etc., Ayurveda has been shown to be very effective for individuals with chronic, stress-exacerbated conditions. 4. I'm currently taking pharmaceutical drugs. Can I still benefit from Ayurvedic consultations and treatment?

Absolutely, Ayurvedic herbs can be taken when you are already taking other medications for some purpose. This has to be done very cautiously to ensure no negative interactions are possible. In fact many pharmaceutical drugs are usually targeting particular illness and so might create imbalances in other systems, at such time Ayurvedic herbs and lifestyle helps us to balance the negative effects of those drugs by natural remedies.

5.Does Ayurveda promote vegetarianism?

Ayurveda and yoga emphasizes a vegetarian diet primarily for spiritual reasons. Hence, omnivores should limit meat consumption if possible. Weak patients should take meat as a soup broth. White meat is more balancing than dark meat. Also, it is vital to eat animal protein, which comes from healthy and happy animals untreated by hormones and antibiotics.

6.Is there a religious component to Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is mother of all healing systems. Great Hindu sages pass this science associated with the ancient wisdom of Vedas (the Hindu epics of knowledge).
Ayurveda is a science of self-healing and awareness. It has all the simple, practical, and valuable methods for knowing ones own self regardless of their religious beliefs and other beliefs. It encourages spiritual development as a healthy aspect of human existence.

7.What are the modes of Ayurvedic treatment?

There are eight divisions of Ayurvedic therapeutics, namely Kayachikitsa (Internal medicine), Shalakya (Surgery), Shalkya (Otorhinolaryngology and Opthalmology), Kaumara Bhritya (Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics) Agad tantra (Toxicology), Rasayana (Geriatrics), Vajikaran (Aphrodisiacs) and Bhoota Vidya (Psychiatry).

The principles of treatment are Shodhan (purificatory), Shaman (palliative and conservative), Nidan parivarjan (avoidance of causative and precipitating factors of disease) and Pathya Vyavastha (do's and don'ts regarding diets lifestyle). Shodhan therapy includes Vamana (medically induced emesis), Virechana (medically induced laxation), Anuvasan basti (oilenema) and Niruha basti (decoction enema), shirovirechana (administration of medicines through nose). These therapeutic procedures are collectively known as Panchkarma. Before executing Panch karma treatment, Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (getting perspiration) are to employ first.
There are several other therapies like Shirodhara, Shiropichu, Kati basti, Netratarpan, Mukhabhyanga and Udvaratana which are provided at Beayurvedic center.

8. How long does the treatment take?

Ayurveda believes in the life long commitment to appropriate lifestyle as per individual’s body and mind constitution. Specific health issue related regimen depends on what imbalance you have. What the stage of imbalance is. This is usually discussed during the first consultation to give you a fair idea about the recovery span.

To maintain balance four follow-up consultations are advised every season to keep you tune-up.

9. Is Ayurvedic treatment for kids and elderly too?

Yes, Ayurveda is a preventive and herb based science and hence is more effective in kids and elderly people as it boosts their immune system and nurtures the body tissue as well.
